Livewire Go Instructions

The Livewire Go is designed for fast setup, simple operation, and complete control from the saddle. Powered by DeWalt or Milwaukee batteries, it can be used almost anywhere without AC power.

Please read these instructions before operating your Livewire Go.

Setup

Secure the Livewire Go to a solid arena rail using the included rail mount.

Install the end pulley at the opposite end of the desired training area and align it as closely as possible with the drive pulley.

Run the supplied line between the Livewire Go and the end pulley, then attach the flag using the supplied flag connection.

The line should be tight enough to track properly on the pulleys, but it should not be excessively tight.

Before operating the system, make sure:

  • The Livewire Go is securely mounted.
  • The end pulley is secure.
  • The line is properly seated on both pulleys.
  • The flag can travel freely in both directions.
  • Horses, riders, tack, gates, and other objects are clear of the moving line.

Battery Installation

Install a charged DeWalt or Milwaukee battery, depending on the battery configuration ordered with your Livewire Go.

Make sure the battery is fully seated in the adapter before operating the system.

For transportation, storage, or service, remove the battery from the unit.

Remote Controls

The Livewire Go remote controls:

  • Left and right flag movement
  • Adjustable speed
  • Surge
  • Hard Stop / Soft Stop
  • Record
  • Playback

The system is microprocessor controlled, allowing these functions to be handled electronically without the complicated wiring and numerous control components found in many traditional cutting flag systems.

Moving the Flag

Press and hold either directional button to move the flag.

Release the directional button to stop the flag.

The flag will continue moving only while a direction is being commanded.

Always leave adequate room between the flag and both end pulleys.

Adjustable Speed

Use Speed Up and Speed Down to adjust the normal operating speed of the flag.

The selected speed remains your normal working speed until you change it again.

Lower speeds are useful for young or inexperienced horses, while higher speeds allow you to increase the difficulty and intensity of the training session.

Surge

Surge gives you an additional burst of speed without permanently changing your normal speed setting.

Use Surge when you want to quickly increase pressure, challenge a horse, or accelerate the flag through part of a maneuver.

When Surge is released, the system returns to the normal speed you previously selected.

This allows you to work primarily at one comfortable training speed while still having extra speed available instantly when you need it.

Hard Stop / Soft Stop

The Livewire Go allows you to choose how the flag reacts when a directional command is released.

To switch between Soft Stop and Hard Stop, press and hold Speed Up for 5 seconds, until the LED flashes.

Soft Stop

Soft Stop provides a smoother, less aggressive stopping action.

It can be useful when working:

  • Young horses
  • Green horses
  • Horses being introduced to flag work
  • Situations where smoother flag movement is preferred

Hard Stop

Hard Stop gives the flag a sharper, more immediate stopping response.

It can be useful for:

  • More advanced horses
  • Faster work
  • Sharper changes of direction
  • More demanding training sessions

The selected stopping mode remains in use until you change it.

Reverse Direction Setting

If the directional buttons move the flag opposite from the way you prefer, the control direction can be reversed electronically.

To reverse the direction, press and hold Speed Down for 5 seconds, until the LED blinks.

This allows you to change the remote's left/right orientation without rewiring the motor or opening the enclosure.

Once selected, the direction preference remains stored until you change it again.

Recording a Pattern

The Livewire Go can record a flag sequence so you can create a training pattern and then ride while the system reproduces it automatically.

To Record

  1. Move the flag to the starting position you want to use.
  2. Press and hold the RECORD button for 1.5 seconds to begin recording.
  3. Operate the flag normally.
  4. Use direction changes, speed changes, stops, and Surge as desired.
  5. The indicator LED will blink while recording is active.
  6. When the pattern is complete, press and hold the RECORD button again for 1.5 seconds to stop recording.

Your recorded pattern is then ready for playback.

Recording a new pattern replaces the previous recording.

Playing a Recorded Pattern

Before starting playback, move the flag back to the same approximate starting position used when the pattern was recorded.

Press and hold the PLAY button for 1.5 seconds to begin the recorded sequence.

The Livewire Go will reproduce the recorded flag movements automatically, allowing you to concentrate on riding rather than operating the flag manually.

Manual flag controls can be used to cancel playback when you need to take control.

Important Playback Information

The Livewire Go reproduces the movement and timing that were recorded.

It does not automatically know the physical location of the flag on the line.

For this reason:

  • Always start playback from the same approximate location used during recording.
  • Leave generous travel room at both ends of your recorded pattern.
  • Do not create patterns that intentionally run the flag close to an end pulley.
  • Watch a newly recorded pattern through at least one complete playback before relying on it during training.
  • Stop playback immediately if the flag is traveling somewhere you did not expect.

A good recording should leave a safety margin at both ends of the training area.

LED Feedback

The indicator LED provides visual feedback from the system.

Button Feedback

A short LED blink indicates that a remote command has been received.

Recording

The LED blinks continuously while a pattern is being recorded.

Confirmation

Multiple quick blinks are used to confirm certain setting changes.

This lets you change system settings without needing external switches or a display on the enclosure.

Remote Sleep Mode

To conserve its battery, the wireless remote automatically enters deep sleep after approximately 10 minutes without use.

Press PLAY to wake the remote.

After waking, the remote automatically reconnects with the Livewire Go and is ready for use.

Before Each Training Session

Before operating your Livewire Go:

  • Check the condition of the line.
  • Make sure the drive unit is securely mounted.
  • Check the end pulley and mounting hardware.
  • Confirm that the line is properly seated on both pulleys.
  • Check the flag attachment.
  • Make sure the battery is securely installed.
  • Make sure the flag has adequate room to travel in both directions.
  • Test the controls at a slower speed before beginning your training session.

Safety

Keep hands, clothing, tack, animals, and loose objects away from the moving line and pulleys.

Never adjust the line while the system is operating.

Remove the battery before performing maintenance, adjusting the drive system, or working around the pulley.

Never intentionally drive the flag into an end pulley.

Inspect the line and hardware regularly and replace damaged or excessively worn components before operating the system.

Train Your Way

The Livewire Go gives you the ability to tailor the flag to the horse you're working.

For a young or inexperienced horse, start with slower speeds, smoother stops, and predictable movements.

As the horse progresses, increase the speed, use Surge, sharpen your stops, and create more challenging flag patterns.

The goal isn't simply to make the flag move faster. Livewire gives you the tools to control speed, timing, pressure, and release so you can adjust the training session to the horse.
