Cutting Flag System — Customer Manual (Livewire Pro)

Thanks for choosing Livewire Pro. This guide shows you how to set up, use, and care for your cutting flag system.

Quick Start

  1. Mount the drive unit with a clear view of your working area (waist-to-chest height).
  2. Attach the antenna to the drive unit by screwing it onto the gold connector on the left exterior. Without a proper connection, the system will not function.
  3. Attach the line to your motor pulley and route it through the end pulley. Use a loop knot at one end and clip into the rope tensioner. Guide the other end through the rope tensioner's teeth. Tension line and tie a knot. Attach quick-release flag.
  4. Wake the remote (press the PLAY button). Remote will sleep if untouched for 10 minutes and must be woken again.
  5. Test motion: Hold Left or Right to move the flag; tap Speed + / Speed – to choose your pace. Stay 5 feet away from end pulleys for safety.

The Remote — Controls at a Glance

The 1.5-second RECORD and PLAY controls apply to Pro and Pro Solar units produced on or after October 1, 2026. Earlier-unit controls are listed separately below.

Left / Right: Hold to move the flag. Release to stop.
Speed + / Speed –: Tap to step through six speed levels.
Record (units produced on or after October 1, 2026): Press and hold the RECORD button for 1.5 seconds to start recording. Press and hold RECORD again for 1.5 seconds to stop recording and save the pattern. Always start and stop recording in the center.
Play (units produced on or after October 1, 2026): Press and hold the PLAY button for 1.5 seconds to start playback. Press and hold PLAY again for 1.5 seconds to stop playback.
Earlier units: Press RECORD once to start recording and again to stop. Press PLAY to start playback and again to stop.
Sleep: Remote enters sleep mode after 10 minutes of inactivity. To wake, press the PLAY button and wait 3 seconds.

Power Surge (momentary boost)

While the flag is moving, quickly re-tap and hold the same direction to add a brief burst of speed. Release to return to your chosen speed.

Hard Stop / Soft Stop

While stopped, press and hold Speed Up for ~5 seconds to toggle Auto-Brake ON/OFF.

Reverse (swap flag direction)

While stopped, press and hold Speed Down for ~5 seconds to swap Left/Right.

Persistent Pattern Memory

Record your flag sequence once and your Livewire remembers it, even after the system is powered off. Your saved pattern remains ready for the next training session until you choose to record a new one.

Available on Livewire Pro and Pro Solar units produced on or after October 1, 2026.

Record a Pattern

Units produced on or after October 1, 2026

  1. Place the flag at the desired starting location.
  2. Press and hold the RECORD button for 1.5 seconds to begin recording.
  3. Once recording begins, operate the flag normally using the directional and speed controls.
  4. The indicator LED continuously blinks while a pattern is being recorded.
  5. When finished, press and hold the RECORD button again for 1.5 seconds to stop recording and save the pattern.
  6. Recording stops and the new pattern is saved to persistent memory.
  7. Four quick LED blinks confirm that the recording has been saved.
  8. The new recording replaces the previously saved pattern.

A quick accidental press of RECORD should not begin or stop recording.

These RECORD button instructions apply to Pro and Pro Solar units produced on or after October 1, 2026.

Earlier units

  1. Stop the flag at your starting spot near the center of your arena.
  2. Press Record (drive unit REC light blinks).
  3. Drive the flag with Left/Right and Speed as usual.
  4. Press Record again to finish. (Replaces the previous pattern.)

Always start and stop recording and playback in the center of your run.

Play Your Pattern

Units produced on or after October 1, 2026

  1. Place the flag at the same approximate starting position where the recorded pattern originally began.
  2. Press and hold the PLAY button for 1.5 seconds to begin playback.
  3. The system will begin playing the stored pattern.
  4. To manually stop playback, press and hold PLAY again for 1.5 seconds.
  5. Manual control of the flag should remain available as an immediate way to interrupt/cancel playback where applicable.

The pattern remains stored after playback finishes and can be played again later. Playback does not erase the recording.

These PLAY button instructions apply to Pro and Pro Solar units produced on or after October 1, 2026.

Earlier units

  • Press Play to run the last recording once.
  • Press Play again to stop early.
  • Any manual button (Left/Right/Speed/Record) also cancels playback.

Important: Recorded patterns reproduce the movements and timing of the original recording. Before starting playback, position the flag at the same approximate starting location used when the pattern was recorded. This helps keep the flag within the intended travel area.

LED Feedback — For units produced on or after October 1, 2026.

  • One short blink when a remote button is pressed = button/command feedback.
  • Continuous blinking while recording = recording is currently active.
  • Four quick blinks = confirmation of a completed setting action or successful pattern save.

Placement & Range Tips

  • Typical working range is 100 ft in open arenas.
  • Keep line of sight between the remote and the drive unit.
  • Don't mount the drive unit behind solid walls.

Charging & Care

Remote Control Charging Guidelines

Your Livewire remote control contains a built-in rechargeable battery that is not visible or user-serviceable. Follow these guidelines to ensure safe charging and reliable operation:

  • Charge the remote only with a standard 5-volt USB power source, such as a computer USB port or a quality USB wall adapter.
  • Do not use high-voltage fast-charging adapters unless they provide a regulated 5-volt USB output.
  • Do not leave the remote charging unattended or connected to the charger for extended periods after it is fully charged.
  • Disconnect the charger immediately if the remote becomes unusually hot, emits an odor, leaks, or shows any signs of damage. Stop using the remote and contact LiveWire Cutting Systems for assistance.
  • Recharge the remote periodically during storage to prevent deep discharge.
  • For long-term storage, keep the remote in a cool, dry location and recharge it occasionally.

For best performance, recharge the remote before it becomes fully depleted and unplug it once charging is complete.

Drive Unit, Line & Solar

  • Light rain is OK. Protect from heavy rain, flooding, snow/ice, and extreme temperatures.
  • Disconnect solar first before disconnecting battery for storage or transport.
  • Inspect line, clip, and battery wiring regularly; replace worn parts.
  • Wind note: Leaving the flag on in windy conditions will cause the cord to wrap itself. Flag quick-disconnects make removing the flag fast and easy.

Troubleshooting

Flag hesitates or jerks

  • Charge the remote. Use the wired fallback USB-C charger inside the enclosure to run the unit if the battery dies.
  • Check that the antenna is firmly connected.
  • Raise or reposition the drive unit away from big metal posts/walls.

No movement

  • Press PLAY to wake the remote.
  • Ensure the line isn't tangled and hasn't wrapped from wind.
  • Check for blown fuse. Replace if necessary.

Warranty & Support

Two-Year Limited Warranty on the Drive Unit. One-Year Limited Warranty on the Remotes.

What's covered: Repair or replacement, at our option, of parts that fail under normal use.

What's not covered:
Misuse; cord wrapping from leaving the flag on in windy conditions; exposure to heavy rain/flooding/extreme weather; water ingress; accidents; neglect; unauthorized modifications; cosmetic wear; normal consumables (line, clip, flag fabric).
