Cutting Flag System — Customer Manual (Livewire Pro Solar)

Thanks for choosing Livewire Pro Solar. This guide shows you how to set up, use, and care for your cutting flag system.

Quick Start

  1. Attach the solar panel to the vertical rails by removing the provided 1/4" bolts and washers and use them to attach the solar mounting bracket.
  2. Mount the drive unit with a clear view of your working area (waist-to-chest height). If mounting to wood, use lag bolts and washers through the rails at all four corners.
  3. Attach the antenna to the drive unit by screwing it onto the gold connector on the left exterior. Without a proper connection, the system will not function correctly.
  4. Attach the line to your motor pulley and route it through the end pulley. Use a loop knot at one end and clip into the rope tensioner. Guide the other end through the rope tensioner's teeth. Tension line and tie a knot. Attach quick-release flag.
  5. Allow the unit to charge in the sun for a day, and charge both remote controls before use. If the remote control is dead, you can operate the system using a USB cord attached to the charge port inside the drive unit.
  6. Wake the remote (press the PLAY button). Remote will sleep after 10 minutes of inactivity.
  7. Test motion: Hold Left or Right to move the flag; tap Speed + / Speed – to choose your pace. Stay 5 feet away from end pulleys for safety.

The Remote — Controls at a Glance

Left / Right: Hold to move the flag. Release to stop.
Speed + / Speed –: Tap to step through six speed levels.
Record: Press once to start; press again to stop. Always start and stop recording in the center.
Play: Press to start playback; press again to stop.
Sleep: Remote enters sleep mode after 10 minutes of inactivity. To wake, press PLAY button and wait 3 seconds.

Power Surge (momentary boost)

While the flag is moving, quickly re-tap and hold the same direction to add a brief burst of speed. Release to return to your chosen speed.

Hard Stop / Soft Stop

While stopped, press and hold Speed Up for ~5 seconds to toggle Auto-Brake ON/OFF.

Reverse (swap flag direction)

While stopped, press and hold Speed Down for ~5 seconds to swap Left/Right.

Record a Pattern

  1. Stop the flag at your starting spot.
  2. Press Record (drive unit REC light blinks).
  3. Drive the flag with Left/Right and Speed as usual.
  4. Press Record again to finish. (Replaces the previous pattern.)

Always start and stop recording and playback in the center of your run.

Play Your Pattern

  • Press Play to run the last recording once.
  • Press Play again to stop early.
  • Any manual button (Left/Right/Speed/Record) also cancels playback.

Placement & Range Tips

  • Typical working range is 100 ft in open arenas.
  • Keep line of sight between the remote and the drive unit.
  • Don't mount the drive unit behind solid walls.

Charging & Care

Remote Control Charging Guidelines

Your Livewire remote control contains a built-in rechargeable battery that is not visible or user-serviceable. Follow these guidelines to ensure safe charging and reliable operation:

  • Charge the remote only with a standard 5-volt USB power source, such as a computer USB port or a quality USB wall adapter.
  • Do not use high-voltage fast-charging adapters unless they provide a regulated 5-volt USB output.
  • Do not leave the remote charging unattended or connected to the charger for extended periods after it is fully charged.
  • Disconnect the charger immediately if the remote becomes unusually hot, emits an odor, leaks, or shows any signs of damage. Stop using the remote and contact Livewire Cutting Systems for assistance.
  • Recharge the remote periodically during storage to prevent deep discharge.
  • For long-term storage, keep the remote in a cool, dry location and recharge it occasionally.

For best performance, recharge the remote before it becomes fully depleted and unplug it once charging is complete.

Drive Unit, Line & Solar

  • Light rain is OK. Protect from heavy rain, flooding, snow/ice, and extreme temperatures.
  • Disconnect the battery at the quick release and remove it for storage or transport to prevent short circuit.
  • Inspect line, clip, and battery wiring regularly; replace worn parts.
  • Wind note: Leaving the flag on in windy conditions will cause the cord to wrap itself. Flag quick-disconnects make removing the flag fast and easy.

Troubleshooting

Flag hesitates or jerks

  • Move closer or face the drive unit; keep line of sight.
  • Check that the antenna is firmly connected.
  • Raise or reposition the drive unit away from big metal posts/walls.
  • Charge the remote.

No movement

  • Press PLAY to wake the remote.
  • Charge the remote.
  • Ensure the inline fuse isn't blown.
  • Ensure the line isn't tangled and hasn't wrapped from wind.

Warranty & Support

Two-Year Limited Warranty on the Drive Unit. One-Year Limited Warranty on the Remotes.

What's covered: Repair or replacement, at our option, of parts that fail under normal use.

What's not covered:
Misuse; cord wrapping from leaving the flag on in windy conditions; exposure to heavy rain/flooding/extreme weather; water ingress; accidents; neglect; unauthorized modifications; cosmetic wear; normal consumables (line, clip, flag fabric); damage caused by incorrect solar/battery connection order.
